The 2009 Solar Decathlon is the fourth year for a competition that the Department of Energy hosts to bring together college and university teams in a competition to design, build, and operate the most attractive and energy-efficient solar-powered house.

Seattle Backyard Cottages

The city of Seattle has approved a bill that would allow homeowners to build backyard cottages to create additional housing and low cost housing opportunities. 

The basic requirements are that the owner must live on site and the cottage can not be any larger than 800 sq. ft.  The original bill was written to cap at 50 cottages per year but the city removed that portion of the bill.
